Shani Sade Sati

The roughly 7.5-year period when Saturn transits the signs around your Moon sign.

Sade Sati ("seven and a half" in Marathi/Hindi) refers to the period when transiting Saturn (Shani) moves through three consecutive zodiac signs relative to your Moon sign (Rashi): the sign before it, the Moon sign itself, and the sign after it. Since Saturn takes roughly 2.5 years to cross each sign, the full cycle runs about 7.5 years, arriving once every 29–30 years as Saturn completes an orbit.

The three phases

Phase 1 (Rising): Saturn transits the 12th house from your Moon sign — traditionally considered the mildest of the three.

Phase 2 (Peak): Saturn transits your Moon sign itself — traditionally considered the most intense.

Phase 3 (Setting): Saturn transits the 2nd house from your Moon sign — traditionally considered a concluding, resolving phase.

Who is currently under Sade Sati

As of this Saturn transit through sidereal Pisces (which began around March 2025 and, accounting for a retrograde dip, runs into 2027), Sade Sati is active for:

Phase 1 — Rising

Aries (Mesha)

Saturn is in your 12th house from Moon. Traditionally the mildest phase, associated with increased expenses and a period of introspection.

Phase 2 — Peak

Pisces (Meena)

Saturn is transiting your own Moon sign (1st house) — traditionally the most intense of the three phases.

Phase 3 — Setting

Aquarius (Kumbh)

Saturn is in your 2nd house from Moon. Traditionally the concluding phase, often associated with financial and family matters coming to resolution.

Shani Dhaiyya (the "small" 2.5-year period)

A related, shorter transit — Dhaiyya — occurs when Saturn is in the 4th or 8th house from your Moon sign, lasting about 2.5 years. It's traditionally considered milder than Sade Sati but still worth noting:

Shani Dhaiyya

Leo (Simha)

Saturn is in your 8th house from Moon — traditionally linked to sudden change and transformation.

Shani Dhaiyya

Sagittarius (Dhanu)

Saturn is in your 4th house from Moon — traditionally linked to domestic life, property and emotional wellbeing.

Traditional remedies

Common practices associated with easing Sade Sati's traditionally attributed effects include worship of Shani or Hanuman, fasting or lighting a mustard-oil lamp on Saturdays, and reciting the Shani mantra or Hanuman Chalisa. Wearing gemstones like Blue Sapphire is a common recommendation in popular culture, but classical Jyotish treats gemstone prescription as something to be verified against your individual birth chart — not applied generically — so we don't recommend one here.

An honest note

Sade Sati's effects are a matter of traditional belief within Jyotish, not something we can verify. Its supposed intensity also depends heavily on Saturn's specific strength and placement in your individual birth chart — a general transit reading like this one is not a substitute for a proper chart reading. Saturn's exact sign-change dates also shift slightly with retrograde motion, so treat the phase boundaries above as approximate and confirm with a Panchang or Jyotish consultation for anything decision-relevant.
